WALT... ask a question to explore
... make a prediction about what we think will happen
... write up an experiment about wedges
Today Mary worked with us to go further in our inquiry about wedges by doing an experiment about wedges. We used four books, a wedge and a desktop. This is what we did.
1. Stacked the books on the desk
2. Placed the tip of the wedge between the 2nd and 3rd books
3. Pushed the wedge between the books.
This is what we found out... a wedge splits or pushes things apart. The sharp edge pushed the books outwards in two directions. The downward force we used was able to push the books outward so the direction of the force was changed.
