El Gregoe Show

Last week we had El Gregoe visit our school with the 'YOU'VE GOT THE POWER' anti-bullying road show. His show teaches key values that educate students about how to treat others and has a strong emphasis on anti bullying. Caleb was chosen for one of his magic tricks. Well done Caleb.

Responsibility

Responsibility means doing what needs to be done to take care of yourself, your family, your friends, and the greater community. Being responsible means that others can rely on you, that you follow through on your promises.

We need to learn to act responsibly and this might involve doing something difficult--like handing your homefun in on time or giving up your own time to help the family. Responsibility can also take strength, such as, saying no to tings you know you shouldn't do.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Today we talked about truth and what it means to us. A lot of children remembered the story of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf' so we discussed the meaning of it and the moral from this story - A person who tells lies will not be believed, even when they speaks the truth and do not lie, or people will not trust you when you need help

Great Reasons To Tell The Truth

• Telling the truth lets everyone know what really happened. There's less chances of misunderstandings, confusion, or conflict.
• Telling the truth protects innocent people from being blamed or punished.
• Telling the truth allows everyone to learn from what happened.

• Other people trust you more when you tell the truth.

First Day of Term 2011

Today was the first day back for all Wanaka Primary students. It was great to meet my new class. We had a brilliant day and I would like to thank all my wonderful kids for making my day a very special one. We are focusing on RESPECT for the first two weeks of the term and already the children are coming up with great ideas about this value.
Here is a poem we shared today.

I RESPECT THE THINGS YOU SAY

I respect the things you say;
I respect what you think and do.

It doesn’t matter anyway
If I think differently from you.

You are a person just like me,
You are a person I accept.

Whatever feelings there may be,
We’ll treat each other with RESPECT!


HOW TO TREAT OTHERS WITH RESPECT
Treating people with respect makes your world a nicer place to live in, whether it's at home, at school, or out in your community. And it's easy - all you have to do is treat people the way you like to have them treat you.
Here are some of our ideas....

• Listen to others when they speak.

• Be considerate of people's likes and dislikes.


• Don't mock or tease people.


• Don't talk about people behind their backs.

We live in a world made up of many different cultures, languages, races, and backgrounds. This kind of variety can make all our lives a lot more fun and interesting, but only if we get along with each other.
To do that we have to respect each other.

Today we looked at the values in the new curriculum and how they relate to Room Ten. Annie modelled her list in the morning and we talked about what they meant. This after noon we came up with our own statements about how they relate to Room Ten. Annie thought we did better than she did! They have a lot of meaning to us and are written by us. They are in our words.
