Funky Eyes

As part of the STAR (for identified gifted and talented students in our area) programme in our school, Danielle's Thursday group were raising money for Tui to use a s part of her volunteer work in Fiji. Tui is a local optometrist who gives lots back to her own and other communities. She spoke at a special assembly about the work she does in Fiji. She is part of a team of optometrists who provides support and help to people who have eye problems. They will perform surgeries for cataracts, treat for diabetic eyes ailments and supply spectacles, free of charge. Here are some photos of our 'Funky Eyes' day where $750 was raised between Hawea Flat and Wanaka Primary School. Thanks everyone!

Wonderland

Our pantomime was a huge success! Everyone enjoyed it from start to finish! Parents and other community members were 'blown away by the talent and skill of the children. The dancing, singing, visual artwork and drama skills were a credit to teachers and children. Photos will appear here once I have collected them from my trusty photographers.

T-Ball

This afternoon we headed out for a game of T Ball. It was a great change from dance and drama. T-Ball was new to our Year 3 students but they loved it. Our Year 4 children were great role models. Over the next few weeks we will be playing a lot more T-Ball so we can practise out throwing and catching skills.

NZ Speech Board Oral Assessments

Today the children presented their oral assessments. What an amazing day. 22 children sat the assessment with 12 attaining a distinction and 10 highly commended. What brillant results. We are all so proud on Room Ten's achievements today. It shows the high levels of achievement in English and the Drama strand of The Arts within the NZ Curriculum. Here are some photos from today's performances.

Pt England Re Poll

Hi Pt England! We thought it would be very close so we were surprised National won by so much! I think Helen Clark was too! It will be interesting to see what National do for schools. Hopefully they value education, children and teachers. Thanks for your comments

Blog Comments

Annie has been completeing some action research for ICT about the use of Blogs in the classroom. Earlier in the week we wrote some comments about what we think of educational blogging in the classroom. Here are some of our comments.

Max
I really like the blog because it has really fun things on it. I really like looking to see how many people have been on our blog.

Nic
I like the blog because its fun to learn from. There are facts, videos, games and we get to see where people are from who come onto our blog
Michael
I like the blog because there are games which are creative. There are challenges as well. You can also vote on some things on the right side of the blog.

Baiden
I reckon the blog is interesting because we can learn new things.

Dara
If you want to show your work you can put it on the blog. It is really nice having people leave a comment about our work on the blog.

St Claire
I think the blog is a good place to learn and day dream. It makes me think, imagine and have fun!

Wonita's friend Paige came to school today. She is from Sydney and is on holiday here. She had wind, snow, hail, sun and rain all in one day! We had a bad storm hit Wanaka this morning and the weather turned very cold. She was even dressed in the Wanaka Primary uniform. Courtney and Wonita borrowed our class camera so they could take photos of her.

Halloween

On Firday we had a dress up day, organised by some senior students. They wanted to raise money for the middle and senior school pnatomimes. There are always a lot of extra costs involved with organising a pantomime, let alone two. Thank you so much to the leadership shown by these students.
There were some very scary looking characters around!!!
Click on the pumpkins for activities.

What is halloween? (from Wikipedia 2 Novemeber 2008)
'Halloween is a holiday celebrated on October 31. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting haunted attractions, carving jack-o'-lanterns, reading scary stories, and watching horror movies. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century. Halloween is celebrated in several countries of the Western world, most commonly in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, and at times in parts of New Zealand.'

What do you think about halloween? Leave us a comment! Or vote on our poll in the side bar.
