Change, Loss & Grief

We have just completed a unit on Change, Loss and Grief. The children listened to stories and discussed ,described and shared how they felt and acted during a time of change, loss or grief. The children came up with lots of ideas about how they could help and support others going through a difficult time. They also responded empathetically to each other's stories. We also looked at community agencies and people who could help us at difficult times. The children completed comic strips to show how they could help others.
Criteria for our comic strips...
  • The story is told in 6 - 8 frames
  • Each frame tells a part of the story
  • Word and thinking bubbles are used to tell the message in dialogue
  • Dialogue is simple, including the basic elements of a story
  • Pictures support dialogue message, showing feelings and mood
  • Pictures are coloured and creative
  • Make your comic more interesting by adding sound effects words (onomatopoeia)
  • Make bubbles all shapes and sizes
  • Make sure the shape, size and colour of a word bubble can tell the audience
what the person is saying or thinking before he/she reads the words
  • WATCH OUT! Make sure the word bubble and the words inside the bubble send the same message
