Pie Graph

On Friday we surveyed the whole class on their favourite colours.  We used 'Create A Graph' to display our information.  Here is our graph.

We found out that blue is a popular colour in Room 16 and green is the next favourite colour.  One child's favourite colour was not included in the survey.  Twenty three children were surveyed.

Picasso Faces

Today we learnt about Pablo Picasso.  He is a famous artist.  Here are some interesting facts about him...
  • He lived from 1881 - 1973
  • He was born in Spain
  • He studied art from his dad from 7 years old.  He learned figure drawing and oil painting
  • He studied art in Madrid in Spain
  • He moved to Paris when he was 19 years old
  • He had lots of periods in his art e.g. The Blue Period, The Rose Period, The African Period and the Cubism Period
  • He died in 1973 of a heart attack and he was 91 years old
We are learning about his cubism period.  We looked a lots of his artwork and watched a You Tube video.  Here are some interesting things we learned.
  • Cubism began in France in 1907
  • Pablo Picasso and George Braque began painting figures that were made up of cubes, spheres, cylinders, cones, and other geometric shapes
  • The paintings looked like someone had cut them up and glued them back together.
  • Cubists wanted to show the most important parts of the things they painted
  • Cubists wanted to show all the sides of an object in the same picture
  • Some cubist paintings were extremely abstract
  • At first, cubists used very little color in their paintings. They used mostly browns, greys, and blues
  • In 1912, colour came back into the art and some artists, like Picasso, began using more then just paint and canvas in their art - sometimes they used paper and cloth
Annie showed us some paintings - here are two we looked at

  • We  saw...
Sadness, weirdness, interesting shapes like triangles, colour, lines, different faces, facial features, light reflecting, shadows, repeating things and different views of the faces.
Some of us loved them and others did not.
Tomorrow we will post some photos of us at work!

Bar Graphs

This week we have been learning about bar graphs.
We talked about what a bar graph needs and made up some success criteria.
Write a title telling us what the graph is about

Use an accurate scale
Show the labels on the x and y axis
Write 2/3 statements about your graph (sentences)
Write a questions for investigation
Use clear bars
Use the tally chart accurately (tally and total)
