Blogging Rules

We are nearly at the end of Term one so decided we needed rules for our blog, just like we have in our school, classroom and for when we use the internet. Click on the sidebar to view 'Room Ten's Blogging Rules'.

Magic Pen

Try out this game. It was recommended today by PFJ. It involves simple physics so maybe you would like to play it in the holidays on a wet day!

Impressions Beyond the Gate

What a great day! Many thanks to our fantastic Parent Forum for a very successful day. Around $13 500 raised for our school. Thanks also to all the helpers and homeowners. Without you it would not have been possible. Here are some pics from the day.

Meeting Harold

This morning we met up with Harold again. We learnt that it is OK to be different. We all have similarities but we are also unique and special. We need to respect each other for who we are. Here are Courtney and Shenee meeting Harold and Tash, the Heartland Life Education Trust educator. Harold blew kisses to Shenee.

Iroquois Helicopter Visit

What a great event! Thanks to Dan Pezaro, an ex student for flying in while here at the Warbirds Over Wanaka. We appreciated the time it took to organise this event. Thanks to Avi Spiegle for writing to his Uncle's commanding officer to request this visit. Dan spoke to us about how he set goals as a pupil here and has achieved his goals. Relating his experience of learning to fly a helicopter to riding a bike helped us realise that learning a new skill requires very similar types of self- management.
This is something that we will all remember for ever. A rich shared experience.

I found this picture on Kerry's computer. It is a new intake a few years ago. Who can you spot any Room 10 students? Haven't they grown!

To Max's Parents re What is a Sponge - animal, vegetable or mineral?

We looked up Wikipedia.
It's an animal. In fact they are the simplest of animals. They are some of the oldest animals in the world. They don't move around and live on the sea bottom. Max and Annie found this diagram of a sponge. We also found a picture of a sponge .

Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme

We are working on the 'Keeping Ourselves Safe' programme for the rest of the term. It is a programme about how children can keep themselves safe from abuse. Today we focused on how to 'Keep Safe'. We listened to a story and worked on writing a diary about a recent day. We recorded our day writing out times and what we did during those times. We then used a key to rate each part of our day, with 1 being the most dangerous to 5 being the least dangerous. We discussed ways to keep ourselves safe in dangerous situations. Here is a photo of some students working on this activity.

The day the tank came

Last week we got to go and have a little look at the gun and the outside of the tank. Mark (the owner of the tank) let us put the helmet on our head. It was really cool and amazing. It only fit two people so it was quite small.

Bike Day for Room Ten

Bike day was fun, especially the obstacle course. I liked the jump and the seesaw. Baiden made massive air on the jump. I went the whole way through the sandpit and that was really hard. Before the obstacle course we had to practice our stops, left turns and right turns.
