Today we looked at the need to look after our teeth. We did an experiment where we used boiled eggs. We put each egg in a different solution - water, coca-cola, orange drink and white vinegar. We will look again tomorrow. We think that the eggs will get stained and the vinegar will make the egg shell soft.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Today we talked about truth and what it means to us. A lot of children remembered the story of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf' so we discussed the meaning of it and the moral from this story - A person who tells lies will not be believed, even when they speaks the truth and do not lie, or people will not trust you when you need help
Answer these questions...
What happens if someone lies a lot?
Why didn’t the people believe the boy when there really was a wolf?
What is the best way to make sure people believe us all the time?
Has this ever happened to someone you know?

The Empty Pot
Listen to this lovely Chinese folktale. It
After listening to it see if you can answer these questions about the story.
Did the emperor ask each child to grow a beautiful flower?
Did the emperor ask each child to grow a beautiful flower?
What other stories have we read that show a character acting truthfully?
What advice did Ping’s Father give him? Has anyone ever given you advice like that?
Can you think of a time when it would be hard to tell the truth? Why is it still a good idea to tell the truth in these situations?

De Bono's Thinking Hats
Tomorrow we are going to complete an assessment task about our 'Zero Waste' inquiry, where we have to use De Bono's thinking hats.
What are the Six Thinking Hats...
White Hat...*The Facts - What are the facts?, What information do I have? What information do I need to find out?
Black Hat...*The Negatives - What problems could arise?, What are the disadvantages?
Yellow Hat....*The Positives - Why is this a good idea?, What are the advantages and benefits?
Red Hat....*Feelings - How do I feel about this? What do I like about these feelings?, What do I not like about these Feelings?
Green Hat...*Creativity - What new ideas are possible? What is my suggestion? How can this be changed or improved?
Blue Hat...*The Big Picture - What thinking is needed?, Where are we now? What do we need to do next?

Thinker Keys
Today we developed our thinking using Tony Ryan’s Thinking Keys. These are the keys we used today
Question Key – the answer is zero waste/rubbish/3R’s/worms.
What If Key – what if everyone dumped their rubbish in our school playground?
Alphabet Key – compile a list of A-Z words related to Zero Waste issues. Use phrases not just one word.
Brainstorming Key – how many ways can we reduce the amount of packaging used by human OR reduce the amount of rubbish produced by humans.

Taking Action - Fundraising
Pod 4 are fundraising for a worm farm and are selling Ginger Pye lunch wrappers. We are tryingto reduce the amount of waste at Wanaka Primary School by encouraging our children to use less wrapping and packaging on their school lunches and snacks. We contacted a company called Ginger Pye and they have been amazing. They have been very helpful and really want us to achieve our goals and gave us a generous price for our promotion. The children have taken on every aspect of the fundraising from approaching our Principal ( Wendy) for the OK to do this to the marketing, newsletter caption, order forms and visiting the BOTs.
We would like to promote Ginger Pye products on our blog. Click their link to go to their web site.
Here are some photos of their product, reusable lunch and snack wrappers.
